This is the inaugural year of the Great Places designation with others following in succeeding years. The Yavapaii County Courthouse Plaza has 5 elements which makes it one of America's Great Places:

2. Traditional Commercial Core and Neighborhood Context.
3. Design.
4. Maintenance.
5. Special Events. Over 130 free events occur annually on the Plaza.
